Living in the Moment
My goal in life has always been to find the one thing that I’m truly good at. When I got to high school, I played two sports and had done two FFA contests. In my mind, I was either going to be very good at volleyball or basketball, and just do FFA to get out of school. During my freshman year, I got cut from the volleyball team simply because I wasn’t very good at it. I was allowed to practice with the team. I spent a lot of time that year on the court just practicing and warming up for games. When it came to basketball, I was a starter for JV, but the only thing going for me was the fact that I was tall. All throughout that year, I stuck with the plan of getting out of school for FFA. When I got to the end of that year, I got to go to our chapter's banquet. In this, I got all sorts of plaques that told me how well I did at the contests I was involved in. From that moment on, I realized that I had found the thing I had been looking for since I was little. FFA was the thing that lit a passion behind my eyes and gave me a reason to come to school, and I was missing it because I was too worried about my two sports. From then on, FFA became my top priority; I would put most of my time into things for it because I was really good at it. Through being in FFA, I have gotten to try a variety of different contests, from things like Scrapbook to Ag Issues and lots of things in between. I wish that I had let myself live in the moment, starting my freshman year, to see how much I enjoyed this organization sooner.
